Niobium Bar and Rod
Elmet Technologies is a fully integrated North American manufacturer specializing in high-performance bar and rod products made from niobium and its alloys. We also produce a wide range of molybdenum, tungsten, and related alloy bar and rod types, all designed to meet rigorous quality standards.
Niobium bars and rods are essential in industries such as semiconductors, medical implants, furnace components, and any application requiring exceptional chemical resistance. Renowned for its high heat resistance, strength, and ductility, niobium is an incredibly versatile material, capable of withstanding even the most challenging environments.
At Elmet Technologies, we bring unparalleled expertise in high-tech materials, making us the ideal partner for innovative niobium solutions. Whether you need standard products or custom-designed solutions, our team of application experts is ready to help. Contact us today to discuss how we can meet your specific requirements.
Custom-Sized Niobium Ingots
At Elmet, we boast the largest extrusion press in the USA at 5,500 metric tons. As a result, we have the ability to extrude niobium ingots in sizes ranging from 4 inches to 0.013 inches in diameter.
We also work with over 9 rotary forges across our manufacturing locations. The GFM can forge niobium from 1.25 inches to 3 inches.

Elmet’s Extrusion Process
With over 100 years of metallurgical innovation and expertise, Elmet Technologies can produce extruded parts rarely found elsewhere on the market. With billets provided by Western sources, we can provide a wide range of finishing processes to suit any application. This includes heat treatment, cleaning, straightening, machining, and cutting.

Elmet works with a broad range of materials including niobium and niobium alloys. We are currently using a 5,500 metric ton extrusion press to extrude rods, tubes and complex cross sections ranging from 152-432mm (6 – 17in) in diameter. Billets can be preheated to temperatures up to 1925°C (3500°F) using gas-fired or inert atmosphere induction furnaces. Extrusion ram speed can be controlled between 1.27-203mm/sec (0.05-8.0 in/sec).
